Do I Need to Register the DJI Mini 4K?

Recreational flying: No — registration not required

Every Part 107 aircraft must be registered, and because the Mini 4K has no Standard Remote ID you also need a broadcast module.
The DJI Mini 4K is the budget entry point to the Mini line. It weighs 243 grams at takeoff, which keeps recreational flyers clear of FAA registration, but it differs from the Mini 4 Pro and the Flip in one important way: it does not have Standard Remote ID built into the aircraft.
For a recreational flyer that omission usually does not matter. Remote ID applies to drones that are required to be registered. An unregistered sub-250-gram drone flown recreationally has no Remote ID obligation at all.
The picture changes completely under Part 107. There the aircraft must be registered, and once it is registered it must also comply with Remote ID. With no broadcast built in, that means adding an external module or flying only at an FAA-recognized identification area.

What if you add accessories?
A Remote ID module pushes the Mini 4K over 250 grams
This is the trap specific to the Mini 4K. The moment you decide to fly under Part 107 you need Remote ID, and the only way to get it on this airframe is a broadcast module. Those modules weigh roughly 20 to 30 grams, which takes a 243-gram aircraft to somewhere around 265 to 273 grams.
That is not a problem in itself, because a Part 107 aircraft has to be registered anyway. It does mean the drone is no longer a sub-250-gram aircraft in any sense: if you later fly it recreationally with the module still attached, registration and exterior marking apply to that flight too.
- Remote ID broadcast module: +20 to 30 g — the aircraft is then over 250 g
- Propeller guards: +25 to 35 g — over the threshold
- Strobe light: 10 to 20 g — over the threshold
- Removing the module for recreational flights restores the 243 g weight
